Model No. 708: Acapulco Blue
The Shelby GT500KR owes its origin to the boys in the bow ties at GM. It seems those boys were in the thick of building a killer street version of their “porcupine” head big block and rumor had it that they were planning to call it the “King of the Road.” Well, Carroll Shelby got wind of this plan just shortly after he learned of the availability of a souped up 428 “Cobra Jet” engine. Always one more than willing to thumb his nose at the factory big shots whenever he could, Shelby decided to drop the CJ engine into the tight confines of the GT500’s engine compartment and designate this model as the “GT500KR”...KR standing for King of the Road.
